Police are asking shoppers to be on alert after a man was beaten and robbed at gunpoint Monday at the Dallas Galleria, NBC 5 reported.
Police said the man was putting some items in his trunk when an armed robber pulled a gun on him and demanded all of his things.
"Now's the time to start thinking in terms of being very vigilant when you're around any kind of malls or shopping areas because there are people out there who are looking to victimize people," said Sgt. Andrew Harvey.
As the holiday shopping season gets under way police advise shoppers to park in well-lit areas and in populated places. If you drop your bags off in your trunk, then go back inside to shop some more, they suggest moving your car because thieves are watching for things like that.
Police said shoppers should take all valuables out of their vehicle and if packages are placed in the trunk, be sure and move it before heading back in for more shopping.
"People are watching you so if they know there's property inside of a vehicle, they're probably going to target that vehicle," Harvey said.
