Why it's a deal: In comparison, according to a recent Sidestep search, the lowest round-trip fare between L.A. and Kahului starts at $413 in mid January (multiple carriers). For an additional $287, or about $57 a night, Pleasant Holidays covers five nights' accommodations and hotel taxes. This is a great deal considering that the lowest rates at the Aston currently start at $117 per night for a garden-view room (or $585 for five nights).

Trip details: The package includes round-trip airfare to Kahului on United Airlines and five nights' accommodations in a garden-view room at the Aston Maui Lu.

Located in southern Maui, about 10 miles from the airport, the resort has a 28-acre coconut grove — the oldest on the island—and two secluded beaches. As a guest, you get access to a large Maui-shaped swimming pool and two tennis courts.

Each room is equipped with a mini fridge (in case you want to save some money by preparing your own meals), and there are coin-operated laundry machines on the grounds and high-speed wireless Internet access in the lobby. Dining options include the Ukulele Grill restaurant and barbecue facilities.

Aside from easy beach access, the resort offers a wide range of leisure activities, such as croquet and golfing, fishing, and whale-watching. You can extend your stay for about $170 per person per night.
