Contemporary chic meets retro charm at this Los Angeles oasis of style a stroll away from Rodeo Drive. Once home to Mae West and Marilyn Monroe, this converted complex of 1950s apartment buildings features rooms with modish details. In the sun-filled courtyard, the amoeba-shaped pool echoes Southern California’s laid-back “patio lifestyle”. Frommer’s writes, “The first style-conscious boutique hotel on the L.A. scene, this mid-20th-century-inspired gem in the heart of Beverly Hills still leads the pack.” Rack rates start at $369 but with this offer you’ll pay $259/night.
Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel for $159 per night
You can go even further back in time at this landmark property that – as its claim to fame – hosted the first-ever Academy Award ceremony. According to Fodor’s, “The Spanish tiles, painted ceilings, arches, and other historic details in this hotel's Spanish Colonial Revival main building recall early Hollywood glamour.” This upscale three-star features up-to-date amenities in its light-flooded guestrooms, a curvy swimming pool on the patio, and the old Europe-inspired Theodore Restaurant. Regular nightly rates here run up to $325 but you’ll pay $159.
Hollywood Metropolitan Hotel for $80 per night
Willing to give up some of the historic glamour? You can get a rock-bottom rate at another Hollywood property with a location in the heart of it all. Hotels.com is offering terrific rates of $80/night at Hollywood Metropolitan Hotel, where each unit features wall-to-wall windows and basic but adequate in-room amenities. Located just a walk away from Hollywood heavyweights such as the Hall of Fame and Grauman's Chinese Theater, this hotel may not have the style or illustrious history of the above two, but it’s smack at the heart of star-studded L.A. action.
