Coast Guard Airman Drowns In Grand Traverse Bay

Officers say 21 year old Airman Charles Krause was swimming on his own time about 5:50 Thursday evening near the volleyball courts when witnesses saw him go under. When they realized something was wrong several people ran into the water and pulled the Airman back to shore. Police say that they tried to revive him until emergency workers arrived but were unsuccessful. Krause died at the scene. Officers say it does not appear to be medically related and an investigation is underway. Krause was assigned to the Traverse City Coast Guard Station and was from Wisconsin he had only been with air station Traverse City for three months.
