LIBERTY, Mo. - A 32-year-old Kansas City, North security guard was convicted Wednesday of assault in the third degree for using a taser on a man who was leaving a bar on New Year's Eve 2005. Edward R. Truitt, of Clay County, now faces up to one year behind bars and up to $1,000 in fines.
On Dec. 31, 2005, prosecutors say Truitt used a taser and chemical spray on the victim. According to court documents, the victim and a friend were nearly two blocks away from the Groove, on 72nd Street in Gladstone when the attack happened.
The second person, a friend of Truitt's earlier pleaded guilty to peace disturbance and was placed on two years supervised probation and ordered to pay the victim's hospital bills.
Post-trial motions and sentencing is set for Feb. 26.
