An opposition lawmaker was shot and killed by a police officer in the Rift Valley Thursday, a party official said, the second opposition lawmaker to be killed this week in a country that has been gripped by ethnic fighting since last month's disputed presidential election.
The slain legislator, David Too, was involved in a love triangle, and that was why he was killed, said the deputy police chief in Eldoret town, Gabriel Kuya.
He said the traffic officer discovered that his girlfriend was having a secret affair with the legislator and, when he saw them both in the car, chased them on his motorcycle.
"He drove toward the side of the woman and shot her in the stomach twice. Her partner (legislator Too) pleaded with the officer not to kill her but he turned his pistol on him instead, hitting him four times in the head," Kuya told The Associated Press.
