An American Airlines flight to Chicago with 132 passengers landed safely in Miami after being diverted because of nose gear trouble.

Flight 862 from West Palm Beach landed without incident about 12:45 p.m. at Miami International Airport.

Pilots of the MD-80 jet burned off fuel as a precaution before landing.

Kathleen Bergen of the Federal Aviation Administration said the situation is not routine but that crews are trained to handle the situation.
