A 17-year-old Long Island youth, who was pulled unconscious from the pool at the Huntington YMCA after holding his breath underwater for too long, has died.

Suffolk police said Thursday that Marc Dawson was swimming in the Y's pool on Feb. 18, when he lost consciousness in the water. He died a week later, on Monday, at Long Island Jewish Medical Center.

Police said the Queens Medical Examiner's Office concluded that the teen drowned.

Dawson's family had told police he wanted to eventually qualify for the Navy SEALs. The test to become a SEAL includes swimming 500 yards in less than 12 minutes and 30 seconds.
