With spring on the horizon, it's time to get some late-season powder under your skis — so don't put away your winter gear just yet! We've found serious discounts over high-season prices at three premier spots in the U.S., Canada, and Europe. Stay right by the slopes in Vail or Mammoth Mountain from just $111/night. Alternatively, fly across the pond to Austria for the last hurrah of the ski season, where packages start at only $700, with air, hotel, and daily breakfasts.
Veritable Ski Bargain in Vail for $424 per night
A ski break in Vail can’t be beat. This chic winter playground in the Colorado Rockies gets plenty of spring snow plus its prices drop after the Hollywood stars have left the trails. Case in point: A three-night package at deluxe Lodge at Vail through April 19 costs $424/night with daily lift tickets and breakfasts. Of this high-end lodge a stone’s throw from the lifts, Condé Nast Traveler says, "the design is more boutique than chain: The interior is accented in warm pine and festooned with the expected alpine-inspired decorations. Amenities include a heated outdoor pool flanked by hot tubs".
Save at MammothMountain from $111 per night
Talking about spring powder ... One of North America’s best-kept secrets is Mammoth Mountain ski resort in California. Tony Crocker, author of "Your Guide to Snowfall" claims: "No Sierra Nevada mountain preserves its snow as well". In fact, the ski season at Mammoth runs through Memorial Day, and often into June. Why not check it out for yourself this year? Mammoth Mountain offers a Spring Fest lodging package valid at upscale Mammoth Mountain Inn from April 20 to May 16. Nightly rates start at $111 per person, with lift tickets. A two-night stay is required.
Alpine Jaunt in Austria now for only $700
For late-season ski fun in the Austrian Alps, look no further than the Ski Europe deal we found. They still have a few places left on a weeklong jaunt in the scenic Tyrolean town of Innsbruck for only $700. Valid for departures through mid-April, this terrific special covers roundtrip airfare from New York (or your preferred getaway at low extra cost); seven nights at simple but pleasant Hotel Tautermann; and buffet breakfast daily. Did we forget to mention another draw: Innsbruck’s 200 trails spreading over 310 miles of top-rated ski terrain?
The hotel rates above are listed per room, based on double occupancy. The peak-season rate at Lodge at Vail runs up to $741/night, so your spring savings are substantial. At Mammoth Mountain Inn, winter rates run over $200, which means you’re saving a bundle by not going in the high season. With the Austria package (priced per person), airfare only could easily exceed the total price of this package so we recommend booking without further thought.
