An airline says engine failure forced an airplane carrying 32 passengers and three crew members to make an emergency landing near St. Louis.

A spokesman for Republic Airways says the plane headed from St. Louis to Milwaukee landed safely just before 9 a.m. at MidAmerica St. Louis Airport near Mascoutah. That's about 20 miles east of St. Louis.

Spokesman Warren Wilkinson says there were no injuries. And he says earlier reports that the plane had been hit by lightning aren't true.

The plane was part of Chautauqua Airlines, which is affiliated with Indianapolis-based Republic.
