A student was killed in an early morning crash involving a school bus and a dump truck in northern Kentucky, police and school officials said Thursday.
The collision occurred shortly after 7 a.m. ET Thursday on Highway 22 in Pendleton County.
Kentucky State Police dispatcher Amy Wyatt said one person died in the crash. Pendleton County public schools official Carole Bowen later told NBC News that the person who died was a student.
State police did not immediately release details about what caused the crash.
A dozen injured people, mostly children, were taken to St. Elizabeth Medical Center in nearby Grant County.
Hospital spokeswoman Christa Moore said 10 children and both drivers are being treated for what appears to be minor injuries.
