New York City tourism officials are hoping that residents facing rising gas prices and pricey airline fares will choose to vacation at home this summer.

NYC & Company is launching an advertising campaign urging New Yorkers to "Go Local" with a staycation.

Street teams all over the city handed out flyers Thursday with a savings pass and information about activities this weekend, including Sunday's sand castle contest at Rockaway Beach. The effort is due to continue for six weeks.

Also happening this weekend is the New York International Latino Film Festival and a folk music festival on Governors Island.

The ad campaign can also be found on bus shelters around the city.
