The employers were evaluated by Seattle Business Monthly based on a corporate profile and set of criteria as determined by the magazine. The 54 businesses with the highest overall scores and the best management practices were chosen. Only 18 companies were selected in the midsize category (100-499 employees) in which msnbc.com competed. And msnbc.com was one of only 8 companies, from the complete list of 54 organizations, to be profiled in the magazine ("Hard News, Easy Benefits").
