Authorities said on Thursday a high school freshman in New York City has been struck and killed by a school bus.
A 14-year-old girl was struck while walking to Francis Lewis High School in the Queens section of New York City. She was pronounced dead at a hospital, New York City Department of Education spokeswoman Margie Feinberg said.
The school called in a crisis team to counsel students and staff.
It was believed about four passengers were on the bus, possibly special education students. It's not clear where the bus was headed when the accident occurred.
"It's such a tragedy. Our hearts go out to the family," said Feinberg.
