Russia's Interfax news agency is reporting that Moscow is suspending its threat to deploy missiles near the Polish border in response to U.S. missile-defense plans.
The agency's report cites an unidentified official of the military's general staff. The Defense Ministry declined immediate comment on Wednesday.
President Dmitry Medvedev said last year that Russia could place Iskander missiles in its Kaliningrad exclave if the United States deploys elements of a missile-defense system in Poland. Russia says the system is aimed at undermining its own defenses.
But Interfax cited the military official as saying the Iskander plan has been suspended because the new U.S. administration is not so far pushing for deployment of the missile shield.
