NBC Universal Sees Greater Integration of MSNBC Channel with NBC News
— MSNBC’s “Scarborough Country” is joining forces with the USO (United Service Organizations) to bring deployed service men and women a little closer to home this holiday season with “Operation Phone Home.” Operation Phone Home, which launches Monday, November 28, will deliver telephone calling cards to troops deployed in Southwest Asia and the Persian Gulf region and will run through the Christmas holidays.
— Award winning news anchor Connie Chung and legendary talk show host Maury Povich will team for a half hour weekend news program on MSNBC, it was announced today by Rick Kaplan, president of MSNBC. The program will premiere on January 7, 2006 and will air on Saturdays at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET and Sundays at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. ET on MSNBC. Touching on everything from politics to pop culture, the program will examine the week's headlines, from top to bottom and inside out.
— Rita Cosby will join MSNBC, it was announced today by Rick Kaplan, President of MSNBC. Cosby will start with the network in June and will anchor a daily evening program. In addition, she will serve as a special correspondent. Cosby’s program is in development and will debut in the fourth quarter.
— Norah O’Donnell has been named chief Washington correspondent for NBC News’ 24-hour cable channel, MSNBC. In addition, O’Donnell has been named a contributing correspondent for NBC’s top-rated “Today.” The announcement was made by NBC News President Neal Shapiro and MSNBC President Rick Kaplan, and is effective immediately.
Tucker Carlson joins MSNBC— Tucker Carlson will join MSNBC, it was announced today by Rick Kaplan, President of MSNBC. Carlson will start with the network next week and will host a primetime program at 9:00 p.m. ET. The program is in development and will debut in second quarter.
