The 2010 Winter Olympics kick off in Vancouver exactly sox months from Thursday, and although they'll be far from where we live, one part of the Champlain Valley plays a very important role in the Games.
Winter Olympics Only 6 Months Away
Twice home to the Winter Olympic Games, Lake Placid now plays a different Olympic role. It's one of only three Olympic Training Sites in the country, and some athletes have even taken up permanent residence there, to concentrate on their training.
"The Olympic Village just brings a different spirit, I mean, the best come here, we have an awesome past and history, and of course the Adirondacks are beautiful," said John Napier, who is training for a spot on the U.S. Olympic bobsled team.
Lake Placid hosts many events leading up to the Olympics.
The World Cup Bobsled and Skeleton Competition will be held in November. Skate America, also held in the fall, hosts top figure skaters from around the world.
