Citing Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson's "personal behavior and actions," the director of St. HOPE Academy's 40 Acres Art Gallery said she's leaving her position with the nonprofit organization.

Kim Curry-Evans wrote in a message to the St. HOPE board that she'd close the Oak Park gallery Dec. 23 after the last booked exhibit wrapped up.

"I have pursued St. HOPE's and the 40 Acres Art Gallery's missions with passion but I cannot continue that passion given my new knowledge," Curry-Evans wrote in her letter.

But what "personal behavior" by the mayor prompted her resignation was unclear. Curry-Evans declined to comment on the matter Wednesday.

Outside the studios of NewsTalk 1530 KFBK, Johnson said Curry-Evans' resignation was a surprise to him, but he called it a personal matter and praised her commitment to Sacramento's Oak Park neighborhood.

"But Oak Park must continue forward, and we'll continue to press on to make sure we provide arts in the community," he said.

Johnson said it would be up to St. HOPE Academy to determine the gallery's fate.
