Orange Pop: Local acts rock the big O.C. stages

Larger Orange County music venues host more homegrown music nights.

For any band, finding the correct chemistry, coming up with a cool name and mastering their material is only half the battle. Given a limited number of music venues – ones with large capacities and the willingness to cater to all-age crowds – as well as stiff competition amid the ever-growing local scene, sometimes even the best groups have trouble landing gigs.

Numerous Orange County acts face this problem every month, struggling to fill their schedules with more than just bar gigs and backyard parties. Luckily for them, two of our bigger and most frequented venues, House of Blues Anaheim and the Grove of Anaheim, are extending a helping hand. Each hot spot is now embracing bands – many of whom have hit glass ceilings via the bar scene – with more local music showcases. A lucky few may even earn the opportunity to appear in opening slots for national artists.
