Although none of this weekend's tropical storms seems headed toward the area, they have provided a little wakeup call.

When it comes to the weather, weekend customers at one local Home Depot had more than just the tropics on their mind.

Rich DeLuca said he's keeping an eye on the storms.

"It's nothing to be concerned with until it gets closer," he said.

For many South Floridians who've been through hurricanes before, preparation is the key. Those with whom WPBF spoke said they're in pretty good shape.

"I have a generator, gas and canned goods, flashlights and stuff like that," said Loxahatchee resident Benjamin Gispon.

"I'm ready for it," said Palm Beach Gardens resident John Zabriskie. "We've got everything at home that we need."

Zabriskie said he tries hard not to worry or stress out about what could hit South Florida.

"You can't mess with Mother Nature," he said. "If it's going to happen, it's going to happen."

At the beach, the surf was rough on Sunday and the wind blew hard. Still, the sun was out and so were the beachgoers who paid little attention to what's stirring in the tropics.

"I've been in Florida for so long, I really don't pay attention to them until they get real close," said Boynton Beach resident Rob Margolis.
