The state Department of Parks and Recreation is holding a public hearing to discuss new safety proposals at the Oceano Dunes.
A state group is proposing a revision of current safety rules to require street-legal vehicles to have a rod and flag up while driving in the dunes. That includes trucks, SUVs and certain dirt bikes.
All off-road vehicles are already required to display a flag while driving across the sand.
Some officials believe the new rules would cut down on the number of accidents at the park.
The public is invited to attend Monday night's hearing. It is set to begin at 5:00 p.m. at the Ramona Garden Park Center in Grover Beach.
