Bristol - A broadcast report says three bodies have been pulled from the rubble of a house that caught fire in Elkhart County.

Police tell WSBT-TV in South Bend that the fire in the house just outside Bristol, about 10 miles north of Elkhart, was reported just before 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Family members and neighbors told investigators they believed three people were inside the home at the time of the fire. Investigators told WSBT they couldn't determine whether the bodies they found were the missing family members, or were male or female.

According to WSBT, investigators had to obtain a search warrant before excavating equipment could be used to look for bodies. That was because the site is considered private property and the homeowner, who is presumed missing, could not give consent.
