A group left Sacramento on Thursday to take used, donated shoes to orphans in Kenya.
Members of Reno-based
flew out of Sacramento International Airport with cardboard boxes containing about 1,000 pairs of shoes.
The shoes will be the first pair of footwear for many of the children.
Brian Williams said that while more than 2.6 billion new pairs of shoes were purchased last year, there are more than 300 million children around the world who have never owned a pair.
The trip is being filmed for a future documentary aimed at encouraging others to do charity work.
Neda Iranpour said she is making the movie to share the children's stories with people in the United States, encouraging people not to take life for granted.
