Alerus Center officials in Grand Forks have signed a new five-year contract with the center's management firm VenuWorks, despite the fact that the city-owned events center is $258,700 in the red. Alerus Center Commission Chairman Curt Kreun says an escape clause in the contract allows either party to end the relationship with a 90-day notice.

Kreun also says ticket sales are on track for an upcoming Britney Spears concert for which the city has guaranteed promoters significant revenues.

In Fargo, the Fargodome lost more money in July than expected because a concert by the popular rock band Green Day failed to draw big crowds. Business Manager Susan Thompson says the reason likely was the lack of college students. Executive Director Rob Sobolik says the dome still is well ahead of budget on the year.
