New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi says today's baseball players try to improve the game just as players did in the past.Girardi responded to remarks made Friday by recently inducted Hall of Famer Jim Rice, who told Little Leaguers in South Williamsport, Pa., that major leaguers like Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter can't compare with players in his era."Do players in today's game make a nice salary? Of course they do," Girardi said before New York's game with the Boston Red Sox. "And have players from the past made sacrifices for that? Yes. And I still think players try to grow the game today just like players in the past."Rice, who retired in 1989, said current players are too individualistic.
