Rescue workers pulled the driver from the 80,000-pound truck's cab and rushed him to the hospital for head injuries.

A tractor trailer hauling household trash turned over on Route 13 Friday morning, spilling garbage on the highway and sending the driver to the hospital, Falls police said.

The unidentified motorist was driving too fast on the exit ramp connecting the southbound Route 1 Superhighway and southbound Route 13 at about 10:13 a.m., police said.

The excessive speed caused the 80,000-pound Kephart Trucking Co. truck's full load to shift and the tractor trailer fell to its side, police Lt. Ron MacPherson said.

Rescue workers pulled the man from the cab and rushed him to St. Mary Medical Center in Middletown for non-life-threatening head injuries, police said. His condition was unknown.

Nothing hazardous was spilled during the not-so-fragrant accident. Penndel Towing & Recovery worked to clean up the smelly mess as two entrances to Route 13 south were closed to traffic until 3:40 p.m.

Any witnesses are asked to contact investigating officer John Trindle at 215-949-9100 ext. 428.
