The 2009 fall foliage season runs from August to November

Fall foliage fireworks start in Alaska and end in coastal areas of Southern states. California gets golden along the way.

It's August and fall has arrived - in Alaska. The leaves begin changing in the far north while most of the nation broils in summer.

But in the weeks ahead, the annual foliage show will sweep through Canada, then cross into the United States. Depending on the elevation and and weather, the riot of reds, oranges and golds will go on into December.
