WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. Solomon P. Ortiz (TX-27) announced today he will host a telephone town hall meeting for residents of the 27th Congressional District of Texas on health care reform at 6 p.m. CST Wednesday, Sept. 2.
"I welcome people to contact our offices in Brownsville, Corpus Christi and Washington, so they may participate in the telephone town hall meeting," Ortiz said. "Residents contacting our offices should provide staff with their full name, telephone number, physical address, and e-mail address.
"Minutes before the telephone town hall meeting is to start, our office will call residents of the district in our database so they can join in on the conference call," he said. "Residents can ask questions about the proposed health care reform."
Ortiz expects thousands of residents to listen in and ask questions about health care reform during the one and a half hour long town hall meeting.
"We must listen to all sides of the discussion," he said. "I continue to review the most recent information being provided by leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives, and at the same time, I am aware that many Americans have questions which must be addressed. It is my goal to provide the most recent information about the health care bill.
"I represent a large district that spans more than 200 miles from Brownsville to north of Corpus Christi, with many rural areas. Using the telephone town hall model will allow the most constituents to participate at once and limit any travel inconveniences," Ortiz said. "I look forward to engaging all interested residents to discuss this important issue."
