The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is receiving a $14 million donation to establish an institute to study challenges in education and health care.
The gift from The Lincy Foundation announced Wednesday must be approved by the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents at a September meeting.
The money will fund the creation of The Lincy Institute at UNLV. The institute will aim to let regional organizations better address challenges in education, health care, social systems and public policy.
Those issues have been identified as critical to building a diverse, sustainable economy and improving quality of life in the Intermountain West states.
Kirk Kerkorian formed The Lincy Foundation in 1989 in response to an earthquake in Spitak, Armenia.
