Update: The woman found dead in her burning home is said to be a local third grade teacher.
The Clark County School District confirms that Michelle Perch died in the fire. She reportedly taught in the district for two decades, most recently at Joe Mackey Elementary School.
Crews are still investigating the cause of the fire. A woman is dead after a fire breaks out inside a home in the northwest part of the valley.
Las Vegas Fire and Rescue were called to a home near Ann Road and the US 95 just before 7:30 pm.
Inside one of the bedrooms, firefighters found a woman dead. They're still trying to determine how she died and how the fire started.
"What people don't realize is 90 percent of the time people will die because of the smoke," explains Tim Szymanski, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue. "The smoke can actually be as hot as flames itself and it contains very bad poisons in it. Many times, people will be deceased before the flames get to them."
The fire was contained and did not spread beyond the bedroom.
Metro Police and CSI were also called out to the fire; they conduct an investigation after any deadly fire, even if there was no crime involved.
