Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas wants to learn more about how to tie agricultural products to the places they come from, so he's taking a trip to France.

Douglas and Agriculture Secretary Roger Allbee have been invited by the French embassy to visit and learn more about how France ties cheeses, wines and other products to specific regions.

The governor says he sees a similar model helping Vermont farmers and fostering the state's reputation as a source of fresh, wholesome foods.

The study trip will involve meetings and exchanges with top level French agricultural officials including Bruno Le Maire, minister of Agriculture, and Michel Mercier, minister of Rural Development.
