Wisconsin residents with 9-1-1 capability on their phones will now have to pay a new fee.

Starting Tuesday a police and fire protection fee of 75 cents a month will be imposed on each voice communications device, with an assigned telephone number, including land lines and cell phones.

The fee was passed by the legislature as a part of the 2009 through 2011 state budget.

The government hopes to raise 50-million dollars a year.
