CRATER LAKE, Ore. (AP) — Crater Lake officials have announced the annual closure of Rim Drive and the North Entrance due to anticipated ice and snow. Weather and road conditions can be severe due to winter storms and can change rapidly. Park spokesman Mike Justin says this year's closure is later than usual. The South and West entrances to Crater Lake National Park remain open to visitor traffic year round. Formed by the explosion of a volcano thousands of years ago, Crater Lake is the nation's deepest lake. ©2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
