The MBTA now knows what caused an abrupt stop that injured several passengers on the Green Line Saturday night.

According to an MBTA spokesperson, a brake malfunction is responsible for the incident.

The trolley was heading into North Station around 10 p.m. as it came to an abrupt stop and several passengers were thrown to the ground.

Five people were injured and four were transported to nearby hospitals.

The incident has some "T" riders reconsidering their mode of transportation.

"I'm a nervous wreck, I don't want to be in an accident", said a frequent MBTA rider.

However, many passengers say they feel just as comfortable riding the rails.

"It's really convenient, I mean, it's fast to get from my school here, I'm not worried about it," said Molly Murray, an MBTA rider.

Responding to the incident, an MBTA spokesperson says the trolley was headed westbound into North Station before it went into emergency mode. The brakes went on automatically.

After the quick stop, the operator checked to make sure everyone was okay.

MBTA officials are still investigating why and how this incident happened.
