The French Health Ministry says the country is selling its extra swine flu vaccines to other nations.

The ministry says Qatar has bought 300,000 doses and Egypt is in the process of buying 2 million. Contacts are also under way with Ukraine, Mexico and other countries.

A statement from the ministry says France bought 94 million doses for its population of 63.6 million, before it was clear that most people would need only one dose instead of two.

On top of that, the ministry says it made its purchase assuming three-quarters of French people would choose to be vaccinated — but figures from late December show that only 4.6 million people have done so.

The ministry's statement Sunday confirmed information that appeared in Le Parisien newspaper.
