Answer: The grizzly bear.

Montana has the largest grizzly bear population in the lower 48 states. In 1975, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service placed it under federal protection, listing the grizzly as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. Glacier National Park was designated as a protected area in 1910.
