A baby gorilla who was injured in a skirmish with older members of her family group at the Louisville Zoo is getting better as keepers care for her continuously outside the exhibit.
The zoo's veterinary team says the nearly 3-month-old has a good prognosis despite losing part of her leg and suffering other injuries in the April 1 squabble that keepers say happen sometimes.
The zoo is giving the baby, who hasn't been named yet, antibiotics and iron supplements to help with anemia.
Assistant mammal curator Candy McMahan says the baby even has four teeth coming in and is developing normally.
She is a western lowland gorilla, the first gorilla born in North America this year. Her parents are Mia Mojo and Mshindi.
