VIDEO SLICE

Slice Header

  • Slice header text is populated by the ‘headline’ field in the video tease and appears after the slice label.   Verify
  • Updates to reflect the currently playing video. Verify

Player Skin

  • Background and logo/label is populated by the ‘source’ field in the video tease doc and appears in the player object on the left panel at the top.  Verify
  • Date appears in the player object on the left panel above the caption and is populated as follows:

1.  If “Hide Display Date?” in the tease doc is checked no date should be shown  Verify

2.  If “Hide Display Date?” in the tease doc is not checked, use the Display Date field, if it exists.  Verify

3.  If “Hide Display Date?” in the tease doc is not checked and Display Date is empty, but Begin Date exists, then display that.  Verify

4.  If both Display Date and Begin Date fields are empty, don’t display anything.  Verify

  • Caption – video caption is populated by the ‘caption’ field in the video tease and appears in the player object on the left panel below the date. Verify
  • Rest image – from the ‘image’ field in the first video tease doc for a slice appears in the middle pane of the player object. Verify
  • Terms –the top 5 terms from the transcript/closed captions are listed. Terms appear in the player object on the left panel below the caption and are preceded by a “Find terms in this clip” label.  Verify transcript    Verify closed caption

-- If none, display none and hide the “Find terms in this clip” label. Verify

-- Clicking on a term (from player rest state) expands the player window horizontally and vertically Verify

  • Related video (general)  Verify :

-- Related videos appear in the player object on the right panel.

-- Each related video is represented by a thumbnail and title.

-- Related videos play in the slice player and are launched by clicking on the tease image or headline.

  • Related video when only one video tease is in the slice:

More Videos Drawer

  • A More Videos drawer labeled “Show more videos” appears on all video slices. Verify:

. . . Below the 2 rows of video teases is a set of links to other shows. Today goes to the Today home page.  Dateline goes to the Dateline front. Everything else should go to its associated showfront.  Verify

. . . To the right of the show links is a video search box. Verify:

. . . . . Initiating a search launches the popup player with search results populated in a rest state.

Transcript drawer

  • The transcript drawer appears on a video slice when the video associated with the first video tease in the slice has an associated transcript or closed caption text.

. . . . . Transcript should be labeled “Transcript of: [headline]”

. . . When closed captioning has been associated with a video  Verify:

. . . If neither has been associated, the drawer does not appear. Verify

  • The label of the drawer is “Show transcript.” When clicked, the transcript/cc text appears and the label changes to “Hide transcript.” Verify
  • The transcript drawer contains one showcase ad.  Verify

Popup player  :

  • The popup player can be initiated by the following actions.

. . . Clicking on the “Open in new window” link that appears above and to the right of the player object.
. . . Clicking on one of the video drawer teases.
. . . Initiating a video search.

  • When the popup player is initiated, the slice player pauses.
  • If the popup player is playing when the slice player starts playing, the popup player does not pause.
  • If the popup player is already open when a subsequent popup request is made, it updates the same popup window rather than launching another.

The same behaviors above should apply when the popup player is invoked by clicking on a text slice link to a video not on the page.  Verify

Instance Properties

Instance properties should override info native to the tease doc in only two cases: playlist and headline. All other video tease instance property fields are ignored.

  • Instance properties for ‘headline’ in the tease docs overrides information native to the tease doc. Headlines have been modified to be prefixed by "Override Headline and Image" on all three videos.  Verify:
    . . . Headline override appears in story header
    . . . Headline override appears in slice header
    . . . Headline override appears in related panel of video player
    . . . Headline override appears in transcript drawer label
  • Caption – video caption is not over-ridable in the tease instance properties . Verify that "Override caption" does not appear in the caption.
  • Image -- Verify  that the original tease images still appear in the story header and slice player.

Legacy considerations

  • A video tease placed into main art should render as a video slice above the text slice. Verify
  • With a video tease in main art plus video teases in a slice, one video slice appears above the text slice with the video in main art as the primary video and the teases in the slice as related videos. A second video slice does not appear. Verify
  • A video tease placed into secondary main art should render as a video slice below the text slice. Verify
  • With a video tease in secondary art plus video teases in a slice, one video slice appears below the text slice with the video in secondary art as the primary video and the teases in the slice as related videos. A second video slice does not appear.  Verify
