A small plane crashed Tuesday into a small office building just north of Toronto near an airport, killing the pilot and a passenger.
York region police Constable Gary Phillips said the plane crashed into the roof of the Thinkway Toys Division building. The roof was engulfed in flames following the crash, but it was quickly doused by emergency crews.
Phillips said there were no injuries to anyone in the building. York region Constable Rebecca Boyd confirmed two deaths on the plane.
Boyd said 14 people were evacuated from the building. She said the plane crashed through part of the roof after takeoff, leaving debris strewn about.
Witnesses reported the plane was rolling and trailing smoke before it went down.
Nearby Buttonville Airport is surrounded by densely populated neighborhoods.
Transport Canada was investigating.
