Tropical Storm Blas continued to move away from southwestern Mexico in the Pacific Ocean on Friday, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said.

Blas, the second named storm of the Pacific hurricane season, was moving west-northwest at about 5 knots and had sustained winds of 40 knots, the Miami-based hurricane center said.

The storm strengthened to tropical storm status on Thursday.
