Apple released a brief statement today explaining that the white version of the iPhone 4 would not be available until "the second half of July," but seriously who really wants the white one?
The announcement itself doesn't come as a surprise — the white iPhone was noticeably not offered for pre-order along with the black version — but Apple's reason did raise a few eyebrows: "White models of Apple's new iPhone 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected."
Apple characteristically didn't offer any further explanation, but did declared that the "more popular" black model is not affected by the troubles. That is a relief, since the black model is the more attractive of the two.
Follow me on this: The white front and back only serve to wash out the aluminum band that is the hallmark of the new design. In the picture above, Steve Jobs almost looks like he's holding an old white HTC G1. (He's not.) I have a white iPhone now, but delay or no delay, my next iPhone was always going to be that gorgeous black-and-silver one.
