A 4-year-old Brooklyn girl weighing only 15 pounds was found dead Thursday morning with her arms and legs tied to the crib, the New York Post reported.
Police told the Post that they were questioning the child's 30-year-old mother. She told officers that she had checked on her daughter at 4 a.m. and the child was OK. When she checked again at 6 a.m., she found her unconscious. She waited until 7:30 a.m. to call authorities, the Post reported.
The child, Marchella Pierce, had other signs of trauma on her body, according to the Post report, and an oxygen tank was found next to the crib. Law enforcement sources told the newspaper that the city Administration for Children's Services had previously investigated the family. Details of those cases were not immediately available.
"It looks like she starved to death," the Post quoted one law enforcement source as saying.
