Descartes and Microsoft to Demonstrate a Joint Proof-of-Concept at Descartes' Global User Group Conference

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., Oct. 5, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Descartes Global User Group Conference -- Descartes Systems Group (TSX:DSG) (Nasdaq:DSGX) and Microsoft are collaborating to fuse technology for Descartes' SaaS 3.0 solutions on Descartes' Global Logistics Network (the GLN).

Descartes' Federated Network, the GLN, is being extended using Microsoft's Cloud Services Platform, Windows Azure as its preferred technology.  Microsoft and Descartes are demonstrating a joint Proof-of-Concept at Descartes' Global User Group Conference, which starts today in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Software-as-a-Service delivery models have been at the core of Descartes' long-term technology strategy.  Consistent with this, at the Global User Group Conference, Descartes is also unveiling its new SaaS 3.0 strategy to extend its GLN SaaS technology platform with cloud-computing capabilities designed to meet customer needs for enhanced business agility.

"We're excited to work with Microsoft, one of the leaders in cloud-computing technology, to federate with our Global Logistics Network.  This gives our customers increased enterprise agility by providing component based solutions in the cloud," said Frank Hamerlinck, Senior Vice President of Research and Development at Descartes.  "By uniting the GLN services with the Windows Azure Platform, our customers and partners can have robust and reliable solutions that are easily accessible and open for integration.  This model results in an accelerated time-to-value for our customers, ultimately driving improvements in their logistics operations."

"Descartes is moving ahead with a well thought out hybrid approach to cloud computing.  Windows Azure will allow Descartes to quickly extend their Global Logistics Network based on customer demand, while keeping costs low," said Nicole Denil, Director of Americas for the Windows Azure Platform at Microsoft.  "We are excited to see Descartes federate its network with Azure and look forward to our continued strong partnership."

Descartes and Microsoft are scheduled to discuss the details of this relationship and the Descartes Technology Vision and R&D Methodology at its Global User Group Conference in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from October 5 to October 7.  This session will provide a deeper understanding of Descartes' technological vision on SaaS 3.0, processes, methodologies and the Microsoft technology.
