FARMINGTON, N.M., Oct. 6, 2010 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- There are golf tournaments every weekend around the world, but few are aimed at providing basic human needs such as an upcoming event at a course near Farmington, NM.

The Riverview Golf Course is hosting a tournament called "Will Golf for Food" that will help provide food, clothing and other necessities to more than 100 families in the area.

The proceeds from the tournament will go to The Lord's Pantry, a San Juan organization that has been assisting families for years.

Golfers can enjoy a challenging round of golf at a beautiful course while benefiting a great cause. John McCaleb, who leads The Lord's Pantry, has seen the number of families needing assistance double each year for the last eight years.

"Even though we are blessed to have food, we have not been able to supply many other needs that we are asked to help with," said McCaleb. "We know that the fundraiser will be a lot of fun for golfers and a great opportunity to tell everyone about The Lord's Pantry."

"Will Golf for Food" begins October 16th at 9:00AM with a shotgun start. Golfers can sign up at 8:00AM for the 2-person scramble format as a single or a team, and the $80 entry fee includes green fees, golf cart, range balls, prizes, a breakfast burrito and a tournament cap for each participant. Check in is at and the deadline for entries to be paid is Monday, Oct. 11 by 5 p.m.

Fundraiser sponsors for the event include: Pinnacle Marketing, Inc., Stone Mountain Flooring, Europa Construction, Current Construction, Animas Pregnancy Center, Navajo Ministries, Sakura Engineering, Inc., Four Corners Gasket, Westates Supply, Clyde's Auto Sales, Nearly Famous Salon & Spa, Heatly Construction, Cy Cooper Company, and Riley Industrial.
