S.C. school reopens after gunman report

Authorities say a search has turned up nothing after a student at Redcliffe Elementary School  in Aiken, S.C., told school officials she saw a man with a gun, NBC News reports.

The 911 call came in around 2:00 p.m. ET Tuesday afternoon, according to NBC affiliate WAGT.com.

Redcliffe Elementary is located at 6741 Atomic Road in Aiken, a city located in the western part of the state. The school, serving children in kindergarten through 5th-grade, has more than 800 students.

Captain Troy Elwell with the Aiken County Sheriff's Department told NBC News the search began after a 9-year-old student said she saw a man dressed in black with a gun in the 3rd-grade wing of the school. After a search turned up no suspects, students were released for the day.
