Foursquare is issuing digital badges to anyone who gets inappropriately "handled" by airport security during this busy travel weekend.
The social networking site, which awards points or badges to mobile users when they check in from various locations, rolled out a new "Baggage Handler" badge in response to the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) new pat-downs and full-body security scans, which have drawn widespread accusations of being inappropriately invasive.
According to a Huffington Post report, Foursquare users are now able to obtain the special badge of (dis)honor by checking in at an airport and including phrases such as "TSA," "grope," or the popular "Don’t touch my junk, bro" in a shout.
The Huffington Post explains that once the badge is unlocked, it reads, “Looks like you’ve had your baggage handled. Happy Holidays and have a safe flight!”
Foursquare’s "Baggage Handler" badge comes just in time for today’s (Nov. 24) “National Opt-Out Day,” a nationwide campaign encouraging travelers to decline the body-imaging scans in favor of the pat-downs. As explained on www.optoutday.com, it is the hope that going through a full-body patdown will spark serious discussions about the TSA’s security procedures.
