ORLANDO, Fla., Jan. 22, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The 86th East-West Shrine Game® supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children® Player/Hall of Fame Banquet took place on Friday, January 21, 2011 at the Rosen Plaza Hotel in Orlando, Florida. East Team Coach Dan Reeves, West Team Coach Wade Phillips, players on the East and West Teams, 2011 Patient Ambassador Ben Carpenter, Hall of Fame Inductees Tom Flick and Buck Belue attended the event.
The Pat Tillman Award was presented to Senior Defensive End Josh McNary (Army). The award highlights the player who best exemplifies the caliber of character, intelligence, sportsmanship and service possessed by 1998 East-West Shrine Game MVP Pat Tillman, who left a lucrative NFL contract to serve his country as an Army Ranger and was killed in Afghanistan in 2004.
Former Washington Redskins Quarterback Tom Flick played in the 56th East-West Shrine Game and Radio Sports Host Buck Belue played in the 57th East-West Shrine Game. For 86 years, The East-West Shrine Game has benefited Shriners Hospitals for Children®, a health care system of 22 hospitals dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing expert pediatric specialty care for orthopaedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries and cleft lip and palate. Services are provided regardless of the patients' ability to pay.
