Kratos Awarded Follow-On Surveillance and Security System Contract for the Port of Long Beach

/ Source: GlobeNewswire

SAN DIEGO, Feb. 3, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Kratos Defense & Security Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:KTOS), a leading National Security Solutions provider, announced today that its Public Safety and Security (PSS) Division has been awarded a contract from the Port of Long Beach (POLB) to engineer, design, deploy and integrate a surveillance and monitoring system that will provide highly detailed views of the Gerald Desmond Bridge. The specialized surveillance and security system will be integrated with the POLB's command and control center, providing it the ability to access the status of the bridge in its entirety during normal operations and in the event of a crisis. The design will include digital cameras as well as Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) thermal cameras which will continuously monitor the bridge from above and below.

This effort is a follow-on to a recent project where Kratos' wholly owned subsidiary Henry Bros. Electronics (HBE) installed security surveillance cameras at the POLB's state-of-the-art security command and control building to monitor and record shipping traffic within the Long Beach inner harbor. All of the specialized thermal imaging system and surveillance cameras will be integrated into a command and control based communication network. No additional information was provided on the contract award due to customer and competitive sensitivities.

The Port of Long Beach is one of the world's busiest seaports and a leading gateway for trade between Asia and the United States. The Port is the second busiest container port in the United States and ranks 18th internationally. The Port has an annual budget of $880 million and in 2009 moved more than $120 billion worth of goods. Kratos has specialized expertise in the design, engineering, deployment and integration of security systems to protect critical United States infrastructure.

"Kratos appreciates the opportunity to continue work for the Port of Long Beach. We are always thrilled to leverage our prior success to take on new programs such as this and to demonstrate capabilities to support the protection of U.S. borders and critical infrastructure," said Ben Goodwin, President of Kratos' Public Safety and Security Division.
