Tampa Mayor Iorio Declares February 20-26 "Identity Theft Awareness Week"

TEMPE, Ariz., Feb. 15, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In support of local law enforcement and continued consumer education, Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio has declared the week of February 20 as "Identity Theft Awareness Week."  According to a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) report, in 2009 Florida ranked No. 1 nationally in identity theft and during this week, law enforcement officials from the region will have the opportunity to attend an identity theft summit on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 hosted by the Hillsborough Community College Criminal Justice Institute.

  • The Tampa summit will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22 at the Hillsborough Community College Public Service Technology Building, 2002 N. 17th Street, Tampa, FL, 33605.

This summit will mark the fourth presentation for law enforcement in Florida since November 2009. Previous courses have been held in Naples, Orlando and Clearwater Beach.

As part of an ongoing nationwide series of free, interactive training sessions offered through a partnership between LifeLock and FBI-LEEDA, the summit has increased law enforcement's knowledge base on this crime.
