A group of hackers calling themselves the Iranian Cyber Army launched an online attack against Voice of America, the United States government’s official news service, decrying what it called U.S. involvement in this year’s revolutions in the Muslim world.
The ICA manipulated Voice of America’s home page (www.voanews.com) Feb. 20 to read, “Mrs. Clinton Do you want to hear the voice of oppressed nations from heart of USA? Islamic world doesn’t believe USA trickery. We call on you to stop interfering in Islamic countries,” Steve Ragan from Tech Herald reported.
The anti-American message was superimposed on a picture of an AK-47 assault rifle and an Iranian flag. The rogue message was later removed from Voice of America’s Web page.
The ICA claimed it has launched similar attacks against 94 other websites, Ragan said.
The ICA has been active in recent months: In December, Twitter traffic was hijacked and redirected to an ICA message condemning U.S. involvement in Iranian politics ; a month later, the ICA landed an online blow against Baidu, China’s most-popular search engine, according to a New York Times report.
